About the position

The AFCAP V Japan BOS: SCS Lead Maintenance Technician position at KBR involves providing essential maintenance and repair services in support of the U.S. Air Force at the Kyogamisaki and Shariki Communications Sites in Japan. This role is critical in ensuring that mission-critical operations continue without disruption, particularly in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility. The technician will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including inspecting, diagnosing, and performing emergency and preventive maintenance on various systems and equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, freezer and refrigeration units, food service equipment, HVAC systems, and general facility maintenance tasks such as painting, flooring, and signage installation. The technician will work under limited supervision and must be able to apply their knowledge of HVAC/R equipment and troubleshooting techniques effectively. They will also be responsible for maintaining safety standards and following all safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment. The role may require moderate to heavy lifting and involves various cleanup activities. Additionally, the technician will act as a key person for Maximo and hazardous materials management, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. In addition to technical skills, the technician will participate in the bimonthly Morale Welfare and Recreational (MWR) schedule and will be responsible for operating company vehicles for mail pick-up and delivery runs. This position requires a proactive approach to maintenance and a commitment to quality service delivery, ensuring that all equipment and facilities are maintained to the highest standards.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and perform emergency/preventive maintenance on HVAC/R systems and other equipment.
  • Perform general preventative maintenance tasks on assigned HVAC units and power generation equipment.
  • Maintain and operate material handling equipment (MHE) such as forklifts and manlifts.
  • Conduct corrosion control measures on site structures including fences and gates.
  • Maintain and operate grass cutting and snow removal equipment.
  • Drive company vehicles for mail pick-up and delivery runs to Misawa AB, Japan.
  • Complete shopping requirements at the Misawa AB commissary and exchange for site-operated kiosk.
  • Act as Maximo and HAZMAT key person, ensuring compliance with hazardous materials regulations.

Requirements

  • US Citizen with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in maintenance and repair.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one prior to deployment.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification or ability to obtain it within 30 days of arrival.
  • Knowledge of HVAC/R systems, controls, and components.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of HVAC equipment.
