About the position

The AFCAP V Japan BOS: SCS Lead Maintenance Technician position at KBR involves providing critical maintenance and repair services in support of the U.S. Air Force at the Kyogamisaki and Shariki Communications Sites in Japan. This role is essential for ensuring the operational readiness and functionality of various systems and equipment, contributing to the overall mission success in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility. The technician will work under limited supervision to inspect, diagnose, repair, and perform emergency and preventive maintenance on a wide range of equipment, including HVAC systems, refrigeration units, food service equipment, and general facility maintenance tasks. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical locks, inspecting fire extinguishers, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. In addition to technical skills, the role requires a strong understanding of HVAC/R systems, environmental regulations, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics. The technician will also act as a key person for Maximo and hazardous materials management, ensuring that all maintenance activities are documented and compliant with safety standards. The position may involve moderate to heavy lifting and requires adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment. The technician will also participate in morale, welfare, and recreational activities and will be responsible for operating company vehicles for mail delivery and shopping requirements at the Misawa AB commissary.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects, diagnoses, repairs, and performs emergency/preventive maintenance on various equipment.
  • Performs installation, operation, maintenance, repairs, and disposal of HVAC/R systems.
  • Completes and reviews maintenance records and performs cleanup activities.
  • Acts as Maximo and HAZMAT key person for the site.
  • Performs general preventative maintenance tasks on HVAC units and other structures.
  • Maintains and operates material handling equipment such as forklifts and manlifts.
  • Participates in the bimonthly Morale Welfare and Recreational (MWR) schedule.
  • Operates company vehicles for mail pick-up and delivery runs.

Requirements

  • US Citizen with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in maintenance and repair.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one prior to deployment.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification or ability to obtain it within 30 days of arrival.
  • Knowledge of HVAC/R systems, controls, and components.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of HVAC equipment.
