About the position

The AFCAP V Japan BOS: SCS Lead Maintenance Technician position at KBR involves providing critical infrastructure support to the U.S. Air Force at the Kyogamisaki and Shariki Communications Sites in Japan. This role is essential for ensuring the operational readiness and maintenance of various facilities and equipment, contributing to the overall mission in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility. The technician will be responsible for a wide range of maintenance tasks, including but not limited to the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance of HVAC systems, refrigeration units, food service equipment, and general facility maintenance. The technician will also be involved in maintaining and repairing mechanical locks, inspecting fire extinguishers, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Under limited supervision, the technician will perform emergency and routine maintenance tasks, determine necessary replacement parts, and maintain records of work performed. The role requires a strong understanding of HVAC/R systems, troubleshooting techniques, and environmental regulations related to refrigerants and hazardous materials. The technician will also be responsible for operating and maintaining various equipment, including material handling equipment, lawnmowers, and snow removal equipment. Additionally, the technician will participate in the Morale Welfare and Recreational (MWR) schedule and assist with mail delivery and shopping requirements at the Misawa AB commissary and exchange. This position requires a proactive approach to maintenance and a commitment to safety, as the technician will be expected to follow all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HVAC/R systems, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and perform emergency/preventive maintenance on various equipment and systems.
  • Maintain and repair HVAC systems, refrigeration units, food service equipment, and general facility maintenance.
  • Determine replacement parts as needed and maintain records of work performed.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain commercial kitchen hood and duct exhaust systems.
  • Repair, maintain, fabricate, and install base signage and inspect fire extinguishers.
  • Perform general preventative maintenance tasks on assigned HVAC units and power generation equipment.
  • Participate in the bimonthly Morale Welfare and Recreational (MWR) schedule.
  • Operate and maintain material handling equipment, lawnmowers, and snow removal equipment.
  • Drive company vehicles for mail pick-up and delivery runs to Misawa AB.

Requirements

  • US Citizen with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in maintenance and repair.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one prior to deployment.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of arrival.
  • Knowledge of HVAC/R systems, controls, and components.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of HVAC equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the 5-Ton Environmental Control Unit (ECU) built by Alaska Structures Incorporated.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and schematics.
