About the position

The AFCAP V Japan BOS: SCS Lead Maintenance Technician position at KBR involves providing essential maintenance and repair services in support of the U.S. Air Force at the Kyogamisaki and Shariki Communications Sites in Japan. This role is critical to ensuring the operational readiness and functionality of various systems and equipment, contributing to the overall mission success in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility. The technician will work under limited supervision to inspect, diagnose, repair, and perform emergency and preventive maintenance on a wide range of equipment, including HVAC systems, refrigeration units, food service equipment, and general facility maintenance tasks. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical locks, inspecting fire extinguishers, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. In addition to technical skills, the role requires effective communication and documentation abilities, as the technician may need to explain work activities and maintain accurate records. The position also involves physical demands, including moderate to heavy lifting, and adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment. The technician will act as a key person for Maximo and hazardous materials management, ensuring that all maintenance tasks are performed in accordance with environmental regulations and safety standards. Overall, this position is vital for maintaining the quality of life and operational capabilities at the base, ensuring that all systems function efficiently and safely to support the mission of the U.S. Air Force.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and perform emergency/preventive maintenance on HVAC/R systems and other equipment.
  • Perform installation, operation, maintenance, repairs, and disposal of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
  • Complete and review maintenance records and documentation.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, and perform cleanup activities after maintenance tasks.
  • Act as a key person for Maximo and hazardous materials management.
  • Perform general preventative maintenance tasks on HVAC units and other structures.
  • Conduct corrosion control measures on site structures.
  • Operate and maintain material handling equipment, including forklifts and lawnmowers.
  • Drive company vehicles for mail pick-up and delivery runs.
  • Participate in the bimonthly Morale Welfare and Recreational (MWR) schedule.

Requirements

  • US Citizen with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in maintenance and repair.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one prior to deployment.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification or ability to obtain it within 30 days of arrival.
  • Knowledge of HVAC/R systems, controls, and components.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance, and rewiring of HVAC equipment.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and schematics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the 5-Ton Environmental Control Unit (ECU) built by Alaska Structures Incorporated.
