About the position

The AFCAP V Japan BOS: SCS Lead Maintenance Technician position at KBR involves providing essential maintenance and repair services in support of the U.S. Air Force at the Kyogamisaki and Shariki Communications Sites in Japan. This role is critical in ensuring that mission-critical operations continue without disruption, particularly in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility. The technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks including the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of various systems and equipment, such as HVAC, refrigeration units, food service equipment, and general facility maintenance. The technician will also be involved in emergency and preventive maintenance, ensuring that all equipment is functioning optimally and safely. In addition to technical skills, the role requires a strong understanding of environmental regulations related to fuels, refrigerants, and hazardous materials. The technician will be expected to maintain records, manage tools and equipment, and adhere to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment. The position also includes responsibilities such as maintaining commercial kitchen exhaust systems, inspecting fire extinguishers, and performing corrosion control measures on site structures. The technician will operate various types of material handling equipment and participate in the Morale Welfare and Recreational (MWR) schedule, which includes driving company vehicles for mail delivery and shopping requirements. This position requires a proactive approach to maintenance and a commitment to safety and quality. The technician will work under limited supervision and must be able to interpret technical drawings and schematics, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and perform emergency/preventive maintenance on various systems and equipment.
  • Maintain and repair freezer and refrigeration units, food service equipment, appliances, and HVAC equipment.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain commercial kitchen hood and duct exhaust systems.
  • Repair, maintain, fabricate, and install all base signage.
  • Inspect fire extinguishers and make repair/replacement recommendations.
  • Perform installation, operation, maintenance, repairs, and disposal of HVAC/R systems.
  • Complete and review records, maintain tools and equipment, and perform cleanup activities.
  • Act as Maximo and HAZMAT key person.
  • Perform general preventative maintenance tasks on assigned HVAC units and power generation equipment.
  • Maintain and operate assigned material handling equipment (MHE) and grass cutting equipment.
  • Participate in the bimonthly Morale Welfare and Recreational (MWR) schedule.
  • Drive company vehicles for mail pick-up and delivery runs.

Requirements

  • US Citizen with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in maintenance and repair.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one prior to deployment.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification or ability to obtain it within 30 days of arrival.
  • Knowledge of HVAC/R systems, controls, and components.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance, and rewiring of HVAC equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the 5-Ton Environmental Control Unit (ECU) built by Alaska Structures Incorporated.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
