About the position

The AFCAP V Japan BOS: SCS Lead Maintenance Technician position at KBR involves providing essential maintenance and repair services in support of the U.S. Air Force at the Kyogamisaki and Shariki Communications Sites in Japan. This role is critical in ensuring that mission-critical operations continue without disruption, particularly in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility. The technician will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of various systems and equipment, such as HVAC systems, refrigeration units, food service equipment, and general facility maintenance. The technician will also be involved in emergency and preventive maintenance, ensuring that all equipment is functioning optimally and safely. In this role, the technician will work under limited supervision, performing installations, operations, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, while adhering to environmental regulations regarding fuels, refrigerants, and hazardous materials. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining records, tools, and equipment, and will participate in various cleanup activities. The job may require moderate to heavy lifting, and the technician must observe all safety rules and procedures, including the use of personal safety equipment. Additional responsibilities include acting as a key person for Maximo and HAZMAT, performing preventative maintenance on HVAC units and other structures, and operating material handling equipment. The technician will also participate in the Morale Welfare and Recreational (MWR) schedule and will be responsible for mail pick-up and delivery runs to Misawa AB, Japan, as well as shopping for site-operated kiosks. This position requires a proactive approach to maintenance and a commitment to safety and quality service.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and perform emergency/preventive maintenance on various systems and equipment.
  • Perform installation, operation, maintenance, repairs, and disposal of HVAC/R systems.
  • Apply fundamentals of HVAC/R equipment and troubleshooting techniques, and adhere to environmental regulations.
  • Complete and review records, maintain tools and equipment, and perform cleanup activities.
  • Act as Maximo and HAZMAT key person.
  • Perform general preventative maintenance tasks on HVAC units and other structures.
  • Conduct corrosion control measures on site structures.
  • Maintain and operate assigned material handling equipment (MHE) and grass cutting equipment.
  • Participate in the bimonthly Morale Welfare and Recreational (MWR) schedule.
  • Operate company vehicles for mail pick-up and delivery runs.

Requirements

  • US Citizen with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in maintenance and repair.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one prior to deployment.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification or ability to obtain it within 30 days of arrival.
  • Knowledge of HVAC/R systems, controls, and components.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance, and rewiring of HVAC equipment.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and schematics.
