About the position

The Afghan Community Peer Support Specialist will provide advocacy, service connection, and skills training to Afghan community members, working closely with Afghan Community Case Managers and the Stakeholder Engagement Liaison. This role aims to support the integration and empowerment of Afghan individuals through various community resources and services.

Responsibilities

• Provide advocacy and engagement with community members to local partners and agencies.
• Share resources and provide skill-building support in areas such as employment, education, and social services.
• Assist in securing employment and vocational opportunities in collaboration with Afghan Community Case Managers.
• Organize community education opportunities related to employment and social adjustment.
• Collaborate with local employers and service providers to ensure delivery of required services to Afghan community members.
• Provide financial wellness engagement and budget training to Afghan families.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• One year of experience in social work, counseling, or related fields preferred.
• Lived experience in refugee resettlement or humanitarian parole processes.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Bilingual or multilingual communication skills in Pashto and/or Dari are required.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written forms.
• Ability to present a positive demeanor to individuals and families.
• Ability to travel between various local working locations.
• History of community engagement and organizing.
• Ability to remain calm during difficult circumstances.
• Advanced knowledge of employment and social adjustment services.
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Visio.
