About the position

The After School Program Leader is a part-time role focused on providing leadership and support in academic, cultural, and recreational enrichment for students in grades K-12. The position involves creating a safe and inspiring environment for youth under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, ensuring effective communication with stakeholders, and maintaining a positive rapport with students and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing the daily after-school program under the direction of a Program Coordinator.
• Maintain a 20:1 student-to-staff ratio using dynamic recruitment and retention strategies.
• Prepare a creative environment with academic, cultural, and recreational enrichment activities.
• Supervise students in various activity areas and ensure their safety.
• Communicate with school staff, parents, and family members regarding program activities and student needs.
• Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
• Escort and supervise youth during field trips and events.
• Distribute supper/snack and track daily attendance.
• Be available to work evenings and weekends if necessary.
• Travel for off-site meetings, trainings, and events.

Requirements

• Experience working with students in grades K-12 in recreational, educational, or community youth outreach settings.
• Ability to work cooperatively with School District staff, parents, and community leaders.
• Familiarity with quality criteria for after-school programs.
• Effective communication skills and sensitivity to others.
• CPR and First Aid Certifications.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED, an Associate's Degree, or 60 completed college units, or successful completion of the ASAS-LA Instructional Aide exam.
• Criminal record clearance through fingerprinting prior to working with youth.
• Clearance of TB Test within 60 days of hire.
• Physical ability to lead and participate in structured activities.

Nice-to-haves

• Fluency in a language other than English is highly desirable.
