About the position

The Richmond Neighborhood Center is seeking an After-School Teacher for Transitional Kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year. This part-time position will run from approximately August 19, 2024, to June 4, 2025, with training beginning the first week of August. The primary responsibilities of the TK Activity Leader include planning and implementing a variety of enrichment activities for young children aged 3-5, as well as ensuring a safe and engaging environment for students. The enrichment activities may include story time, fine motor skill development through play, and other educational experiences designed to foster learning and growth in a supportive atmosphere. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of professional experience working with young children and a proven track record in planning and executing developmentally appropriate classes. The role requires flexibility, patience, and strong problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to lead and engage in group activities. Candidates should be prepared to commit to the entire school year and participate in a week of training prior to the start of the school year. Additionally, the position requires a commitment to creating inclusive activities that respect and celebrate diverse backgrounds. Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a different enrichment activity class for each day/week.
  • Maintain a safe environment for students during activities.
  • Lead, participate, and engage in group activities with students.
  • Create activities that center on diverse backgrounds and foster inclusion.
  • Supervise and support young children in their learning and development.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years professional experience working with age groups 3-5.
  • Proven experience in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate classes/activities for young children.
  • Strong youth supervision and problem-solving experience.
  • Flexible and patient demeanor.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with creating activities that center diverse backgrounds and foster a space for inclusion and belonging.
  • CPR and first aid certifications highly desired.
  • Bilingual, especially in Cantonese, Mandarin, or Vietnamese.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Desire to continue learning and growing as an education professional.
