About the position

The Afternoon Substitute Teacher at Peake Childhood Center is responsible for assisting the lead teacher in guiding children's daily activities and ensuring a safe and healthy classroom environment. This part-time position requires effective communication and teamwork skills to support children's development and maintain the smooth functioning of the center.

Responsibilities

  • Assist lead teacher in guiding activities of the children.
  • Cooperate with other staff and classroom groups to maintain the smooth functioning of the Center.
  • Maintain a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child, including weekly observations.
  • Eat with and assist children in the development of social and self-help skills.
  • Guide children's acquisition of social skills.
  • Attend staff training and meetings, and Board and parent meetings as requested.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment.
  • Assure that classroom equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored.
  • Use the playground as an extension of the classroom; supervise and monitor children.
  • Identify and respond to emergency situations, including child elopement.
  • Assist in conducting the daily health and environment checklist.
  • Assure that files are complete, accurate, and confidentially maintained.
  • Perform other duties as may be required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in childcare or early childhood education
  • Strong analysis skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team setting
