About the position

The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, Bureau of Parks and Lands, has a full-time Park Maintenance Coordinator vacancy for the northern regional parks. The position will be headquartered at the Fort Knox Historic Site in Prospect, Maine. This is structure and craft work involving the upkeep, repair, and overall maintenance and repair of several state parks and historic sites within an assigned geographical area. Responsibilities include the operation, repair, maintenance, and transportation of several pieces of heavy equipment throughout the state park system. Employee performs as well as coordinates the work of contractors in general mechanical repair and maintenance of parks infrastructure including (but not limited to) heating, water and sewerage systems, equipment, buildings, trails, roads, piers, docks, floats, and parking areas. Must be willing to travel on occasional work assignments throughout the state park system. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Northern Region Assistant Regional Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Upkeep, repair, and overall maintenance of state parks and historic sites.
  • Operation, repair, maintenance, and transportation of heavy equipment.
  • Coordinate work of contractors for mechanical repair and maintenance.
  • Maintain parks infrastructure including heating, water, and sewerage systems.
  • Manage maintenance of equipment, buildings, trails, roads, piers, docks, floats, and parking areas.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of experience in the maintenance field including work experience in plumbing, electricity, welding, and/or allied fields.

Nice-to-haves

  • Welding, rough and finish carpentry and roofing skills.
  • Vehicle and boat maintenance and repair experience.
  • Powered equipment operation, maintenance, and repair skills.
  • Experience with seasonal park sewage systems and potable water systems.
  • Knowledge of state park infrastructure and maintenance history.
  • Road and parking lot maintenance experience.
  • Boat handling ability.
  • Ability to read and sketch plans or blueprints.
  • Ability to calculate project costs.
  • Computer skills for reports and emailing purposes.
  • Knowledge and practice of safe work habits.
