About the position

The Agile Scrum Master - Lead position is a critical role within our organization, primarily focused on guiding and coaching the Scrum Team to effectively utilize Agile practices and principles. This role is essential for delivering high-quality products and services to our customers. The Scrum Master will work closely with the team to elevate their performance by identifying strengths and areas for improvement, employing appropriate coaching and development techniques. The Scrum Master is responsible for ensuring that the Scrum framework is understood and adhered to by the team, facilitating a culture of continuous improvement and self-organization. In this role, the Scrum Master will help both employees and stakeholders understand and enact Scrum and empirical product development. They will coach the Scrum team in self-organization, cross-functional skillset development, and effective communication, both internally and externally. The Scrum Master will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to influence decision-making and support organizational project or product teams. Additionally, they will work with other Scrum Masters to resolve team impediments and enhance the overall effectiveness of Scrum within the organization. The Scrum Master will also contribute to the advancement of Agile practices, recommending changes that can increase the productivity of the Scrum Team. They will ensure that the Product Owner is equipped to arrange the Product Backlog to maximize value and will facilitate all Scrum events, including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective. This position requires a leader who can coach and support Agile teams primarily engaged in Business as Usual (BAU) work, as well as important departmental initiatives and corporate projects. A strong understanding of the applications supported is essential, as the Scrum Master must be able to communicate effectively about them.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and coach the Scrum Team on Agile practices and principles.
  • Ensure Scrum is understood and adhered to by the team.
  • Help employees and stakeholders understand and enact Scrum and empirical product development.
  • Coach the Scrum team in self-organization and cross-functional skillset development.
  • Work with Scrum Team and stakeholders to influence decision-making.
  • Resolve team impediments with other Scrum Masters.
  • Contribute to the advancement and improvement of Agile practices.
  • Facilitate and support all Scrum events: Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective.
  • Act as a leader who coaches and supports Agile teams assigned to BAU work and departmental initiatives.

Requirements

  • Must hold at least one Scrum Certification from Scrum Alliance or SAFe.
  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of product or project development experience, or 3 years of project development experience on an Agile Team or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings at multiple levels of an organization.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Strong ability to anticipate bottlenecks and provide escalation management.
  • Ability to influence partners, customers, and vendors in support of the project plan.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of an agile framework or method (i.e. Scrum, Kanban).
  • In-depth knowledge of traditional project management principles and practices.
  • Experience leading IT projects, especially infrastructure within a very large environment.
