About the position

CTG is seeking an experienced Agile Scrum Master to provide servant-leadership and mentorship to multiple cross-functional agile teams in Buffalo, NY. The role focuses on applying Agile principles and frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban, and Extreme Programming (XP) to foster a culture of continuous improvement and facilitate team collaboration. The Scrum Master will create an environment that supports self-organization, cross-functionality, and transparency, ensuring that all team members work efficiently towards their goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead teams using Agile practices, including user stories, retrospectives, story mapping, Acceptance Test-Driven Development (ATDD), Test-Driven Development (TDD), continuous integration, and pairing.
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement within agile teams through transparency, collaboration, and retrospectives.
  • Curate and develop coaching content for agile practices to guide teams.
  • Facilitate key meetings, such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and problem-solving sessions.
  • Ensure team workflows are transparent through the use of appropriate information radiators.
  • Remove any blocking issues outside the team's authority to ensure continued focus on goals.
  • Collaborate with other Agile Leaders to enhance Agile implementation within the organization.
  • Mentor less experienced Scrum Masters and guide their development.
  • Organize and promote individual and team learning opportunities, including communities of practice, conferences, meetups, reading, and training.
  • Adhere to the company's risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain internal control standards and implement audit points and any regulatory issues as applicable.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience as a member of an agile team, including at least 2 years of Scrum Master experience.
  • Or, in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 8 years of higher education and/or work experience, with at least 4 years of experience as a member of an agile team and 2 years of Scrum Master experience.
  • Proficiency in Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, XP).
  • Experience with project management.
  • Familiarity with Jira / Confluence.

Nice-to-haves

  • Depth of knowledge in at least two technology team roles (e.g., project manager, user experience, business analyst, developer, testing, deployment).
  • Experience fostering team self-organization and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of Agile and Lean principles and practices.
  • Experience developing or managing digital capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Design Thinking principles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior experience leading through influence.
