About the position

The AI Assurance Research Engineer will join the AI Systems Engineering team at RTX Corporation, focusing on the development of dependable AI-enabled systems. This role involves conducting applied research in formal analysis, design, verification, validation, and assurance of intelligent aerospace systems. The engineer will work on innovative solutions to real-world problems in aerospace, manufacturing, and defense, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and leading research initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct applied research in formal analysis, design, verification & validation (V&V), test & evaluation (T&E), assurance, and certification of intelligent and autonomous aerospace systems.
  • Develop complex formal design, analysis, synthesis, V&V, assurance, and T&E tools.
  • Initiate, lead, and execute on funding opportunities in both internal and external R&D.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in the field and champion new ideas and problem definitions.
  • Work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment focused on innovation and partner with leading research institutions.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and detailed reports, presentations, and technical papers for archival journals.

Requirements

  • PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field.
  • Analytical, project management, problem-solving, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Experience in AI assurance, model-based design, logic, assurance cases, optimization, and system dynamics & control.
  • Experience with formal analysis, verification tools, and methodologies for cyber-physical systems including AI-enabled systems.
  • Experience with AI technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with numerical computational languages such as Matlab, Julia, Python, etc.
  • Experience with low-level implementation languages such as C and C++.
  • Experience with model-checking tools such as Z3 and NuSMV.
  • Experience with ML Libraries such as scikit-learn and TensorFlow.
  • Experience working with DOD and other government agencies.
  • Experience with multi-objective optimization techniques, cyber-physical systems (CPS) design techniques, and contract-based design techniques.
  • Experience with aerospace certification standards.
