About the position

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an AI Engineer - Boca Raton, FL. The AI Engineer is pivotal in enhancing and facilitating Florida Atlantic's use of AI technologies both on-premise and in the cloud. This position will develop in-house developer-driven AI projects. This role focuses on developing AI models and workflows to assist faculty and staff across multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Faculty members to identify opportunities for process improvements and identify AI platforms that should be deployed.
  • Collaborate with Faculty to gather and define requirements for AI academic and research projects, ensuring alignment with University goals and technical feasibility.
  • Deploy and install AI models on-premise and cloud resources.
  • Monitor running models for performance, uptime, and chargeback.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in AI and process optimization technologies, including best practices, and the latest innovative solutions.
  • Create and maintain documentation of deployed AI models, processes, and project/grant requirements.
  • Train peers within the University Information Technology on the use of the available models at Florida Atlantic.
  • Deploy and or develop tools to create high-quality prompts for AI models, ensuring they are clear, concise, and aligned with the desired outputs.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience deploying and running AI technologies (e.g. large language model, machine learning, deep learning, TensorFlow, Python, or natural language processing).
  • Five or more years of experience in applying cloud infrastructure, including databases, Kubernetes, containers, source control, and code as a service.
  • Five or more years of experience interacting with Linux or Mac OS terminal interfaces.
  • Experience in program leadership, governance, and change enablement.
  • Experience with the use and deployment of REST API.
  • Knowledge of basic programming algorithms, object-oriented and functional design principles, and best-practice coding patterns.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
