About the position

The AI Lead Language Model Engineer will manage a team of AI Language Model Engineers within the AI Center of Excellence group at Oxy. This role focuses on designing machine learning model architectures, leading the deployment of language models, and optimizing their performance through prompt engineering and collaboration with domain experts.

Responsibilities

• Design the right machine learning model architecture and model type.
• Lead and coach a team of AI Language Model Engineers with a highly engaging leadership style.
• Lead the design of workflows for language model deployment.
• Choose the right language model for a particular application.
• Perform prompt engineering, pre-processing, and post-processing to optimize the output for suitability.
• Work with domain experts to assess model quality.
• Perform fine-tuning when necessary.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering or related field required.
• Master's degree is highly preferred.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in language models and prompt engineering.
• Strong Python or R programming skills required.
• Knowledge of Linux environment required.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft products (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word, Power BI).

Nice-to-haves

• Certified in Amazon Web services (AWS) cloud provider is highly preferred.
• Ideally possesses AWS GenAI badges.
