About the position

The AI Lead Machine Learning Engineer will manage a team of AI Machine Learning Operations Engineers within the AI Center of Excellence group in Houston, TX. This role focuses on designing machine learning model architectures, leading a team, and optimizing performance for computationally heavy workloads while ensuring best practices in model training and deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Design the right machine learning model architecture and model type.
  • Lead and coach a team of AI Machine Learning Operations Engineers with a highly engaging leadership style.
  • Tune the hyper-parameters of algorithms.
  • Perform training and validation of models.
  • Create workflows to optimize performance for computationally heavy workloads.
  • Work with data scientists to improve the data and model for optimal accuracy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering or related field required.
  • Master's degree is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in orchestration methods and tools for computational infrastructure and machine learning methods and algorithms.
  • Strong Python or R programming skills required.
  • Knowledge of Linux environment required.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft products (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word, Power BI).
  • Experience developing, architecting, and running ML or deep learning workload in the Cloud.
  • Ability to express the intuition behind basic ML algorithms.
  • Experience performing basic hyper parameter optimization.
  • Ability to follow model training, deployment, and operational best practices.
  • Experience with Docker for containerization and Kubernetes for orchestration.
  • Knowledge of Terraform and Ansible for automating infrastructure management.
  • Knowledge of YAML for automating model and application code deployment.
  • Understanding of data engineering principles and databases (relational, NoSQL).

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified in Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud provider is highly preferred.
  • Ideally AWS certified in Machine Learning Specialty.
