About the position

The AI Machine Learning Engineer plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between data science and practical implementation within Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. This position focuses on supporting data scientists and clinical informaticists in the development, deployment, and maintenance of production-grade applications that utilize Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The engineer collaborates with various stakeholders, including clinicians and analytics developers, to ensure that the solutions provided yield actionable insights aligned with clinical, financial, and operational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize reproducible and reusable pipelines for model training, validation, and inference in collaboration with data scientists, data engineers, and software engineers.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot AI and ML systems to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability.
  • Partner with subject matter experts and non-technical stakeholders to capture clinical and business workflows for AI solution design.
  • Define technical standards to improve Children's model development lifecycle while reducing complexity.
  • Lead code reviews and debugging sessions, mentoring data scientists and analytics developers to enhance code quality.
  • Follow best practices for project management, source control, documentation, and ethical AI.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architects and technical leaders to maintain a current machine learning architecture roadmap.
  • Partner with researchers on projects aligned with quality and operational goals, ensuring compliance with technical standards and regulations.
  • Contribute to organizational knowledge through participation in seminars, conferences, and online learning.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in a Machine Learning Engineering, Data Science, or Data Engineering role.
  • 1 year of experience implementing machine learning algorithms in a production environment or applying software development lifecycle principles to analytics.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or Analytics.
  • Master's degree in a related field or four years of industry experience in lieu of a Master's degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing software and data infrastructure for predictive models, including tools for analysis, model optimization, and monitoring.
  • Experience with machine learning libraries and frameworks such as scikit-learn, H2O, Tensorflow, PyTorch, and Datarobot.
  • Experience working with healthcare data in a HIPAA regulated environment.
  • Epic certification or badges in relevant platforms.
  • Azure Certifications in Data Fundamentals, AI Fundamentals, Data Science, or Data Engineering.
