About the position

The Senior AI Planning Research Scientist at Peraton will tackle complex, real-world planning challenges that demand cutting-edge solutions. This role involves working within a small team of engineers, where you will be responsible for achieving specific deliverables. Collaboration and communication with team members are essential, as you will also provide guidance to junior staff. The position is situated within Peraton Labs, a self-sustaining research center dedicated to applied research and engineering, aimed at helping government agencies, utilities, and commercial enterprises leverage advancements in communications, analytics, and cybersecurity. In this role, you will engage in applied research programs, developing prototypes to address intricate problems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong interest in cybersecurity research and development, along with a broad knowledge base across multiple domains. While you may focus on specific areas of expertise, a general awareness of various domains is crucial. A passion for learning new technologies and staying updated with industry developments is highly valued. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, with an emphasis on independent initiative to identify and develop effective solutions. You will be expected to contribute to the advancement of AI planning solutions, utilizing your expertise in various AI planning methodologies and programming languages. This role is pivotal in driving innovation and delivering impactful results for our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Solve complex, real-world planning problems using state-of-the-art solutions.
  • Collaborate with a small team of engineers to achieve specific deliverables.
  • Guide and mentor junior staff members.
  • Engage in applied research programs to develop prototypes for complex challenges.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience with a BS/BA, 3 years with an MS/MA, or 0 years with a PhD.
  • Experience developing and deploying sophisticated AI planning solutions.
  • Expertise in common AI planning approaches such as behavior trees, GOAP, HTN, etc.
  • Proficiency in programming languages including C, C++, Go, and Python.
  • Experience in designing, developing, and testing software modules related to cyber capabilities and network protocols.
  • Familiarity with modern development practices and toolsets (Git, CI/CD).
  • Experience running Docker containers and developing in Linux.
  • Strong independent problem-solving skills and initiative.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to understand the 'big picture' and see beyond specific problems.
  • Experience with network emulation frameworks (CORE, EMANE, MiniNet).
  • Familiarity with networking protocols and configuring network appliances.
  • Experience with threat intelligence research.
  • Knowledge of assembly languages (x86/64, ARM, MIPS, etc.).
