About the position

We are looking to hire an experienced Research Scientist to help us measure capabilities of GenAI models. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about how to use evaluations and datasets to allow us to evaluate our models across different text and multimodal capabilities. This involves researching existing benchmarks available as well as coming up with novel approaches to evaluate our GenAI models. The role requires a deep understanding of machine learning methodologies and the ability to adapt standard methods to exploit modern parallel environments such as distributed clusters, multicore SMP, and GPU. As a Research Scientist, you will design and implement methods to evaluate our large language models (LLMs) on various capabilities. You will work closely with a large and globally distributed team across multiple functions to understand the needs and align on goals and outcomes. Your contributions will also extend to publications and open-sourcing efforts, playing a significant role in fostering healthy cross-functional collaboration. This position is critical in ensuring that our GenAI models are rigorously evaluated and improved based on empirical data and innovative methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement methods to evaluate our LLMs on different capabilities.
  • Adapt standard machine learning methods to best exploit modern parallel environments (e.g. distributed clusters, multicore SMP, and GPU).
  • Work with a large and globally distributed team across multiple functions to understand the needs and align on goals and outcomes.
  • Contribute to publications and open-sourcing efforts.
  • Play a significant role in healthy cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field.
  • 3+ years of work experience in a university, industry, or government lab with emphasis on AI Research in machine learning, deep learning, and/or natural language processing.
  • Programming experience in Python and hands-on experience with frameworks such as PyTorch.
  • Exposure to architectural patterns of large scale software applications.
  • Direct experience in building evals for generative AI and LLM research.
  • Domain-Relevant Research Publications accepted at peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, and ACL).

Nice-to-haves

  • First author publications at peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, and ACL).
  • Experience in developing and debugging in Python.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary ranging from $143,000 to $208,000 a year.
  • Bonus opportunities.
  • Equity options.
  • Comprehensive benefits package.
