About the position

Meta is seeking a Research Scientist to join our Multimodal applied research team. We are looking for recognized experts in generative AI, multimodal reasoning, and natural language processing (NLP), with experience in areas such as multimodal model training, data processing for pretraining and fine-tuning, large language model (LLM) alignment, reinforcement learning for model tuning, and efficient training and inference. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in producing and applying new scientific advancements to help us develop and deploy large multimodal models. This role involves direct contributions to experiments, including designing experimental details, writing reusable code, running evaluations, and organizing results. The successful candidate will also mentor other team members and play a significant role in fostering healthy cross-functional collaboration. Additionally, the Research Scientist will lead, collaborate, and execute research that pushes forward the state of the art in multimodal reasoning and generation research. Working with a large team, the candidate will help identify long-term ambitious research goals as well as intermediate milestones, prioritizing research that can be applied to Meta's product development.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • A PhD in AI, computer vision, computer science, data science, or related technical fields.
  • Publications in AI and machine learning.
  • Experience writing software and executing complex experiments involving large AI models and datasets.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Direct experience in generative AI, computer vision, and multimodal research.
  • 2+ years of work experience in a university, industry, or government lab, in a role with primary emphasis on AI research.
  • First author publications experience at peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, and ACL).
  • Experience in developing and debugging in Python.
