About the position

As an AI Research Scientist specializing in Large Language Models (LLMs) at ByteDance, you will be at the forefront of advancing the state of the art in applied machine learning. Your role will involve developing and executing innovative research projects that push the boundaries of LLM capabilities. You will conduct experiments that include designing experimental details, writing reusable code, running evaluations, and organizing results to ensure that our models are not only effective but also responsible and interpretable. Collaboration is key in this position, as you will work with a large and globally distributed team of experts in the field. Your contributions will extend beyond research; you will also be expected to contribute to publications and open-sourcing efforts, sharing your findings with the broader community to foster technological progress. The ByteDance Doubao Team, which you will be a part of, is dedicated to crafting the industry's most advanced LLMs. Founded in 2023, this team is committed to leading global research and fostering both technological and social progress. With a robust international presence and access to substantial data and computing resources, the team has developed a proprietary general-purpose model with multimodal capabilities. This model supports over 50 downstream business services, making it a critical component of our offerings. As a successful candidate, you will be expected to commit to one of several start dates in 2024, and your application will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so early application is encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Develop or execute research to push forward the state of the art in LLM.
  • Conduct experiments, including designing experimental details, writing reusable code, running evaluations, and organizing results.
  • Collaborate with a large and globally distributed team.
  • Contribute to publications and open-sourcing efforts.

Requirements

  • PhD graduate with a background in NLP.
  • Experience in areas like LLM pretrain, interpretable LLM, LLM evaluation, responsible LLMs, and LLM alignment are preferred.
  • Candidates with influential open-source projects or publications at top-tier AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, and ACL) are preferred.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, good learning ability, communication ability, and self-motivation.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills, able to explore new technologies with the team and promote technological progress.
