About the position

Meta is seeking a Research Scientist to join our Llama Large Language Model (LLM) Research team. This position is ideal for recognized experts in Natural Language Processing (NLP) or reinforcement learning, particularly those with experience in areas such as LLM alignment, multilingual modeling, code generation, responsible AI, and model controllability. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in producing and applying new scientific advancements to aid in the development and responsible release of large language models. In this role, you will lead, collaborate, and execute research that pushes the boundaries of large language model research. You will directly contribute to experiments by designing experimental details, writing reusable code, running evaluations, and organizing results. Working with a large and globally distributed team, you will also contribute to publications and open-sourcing efforts. A key part of your responsibilities will be to help identify long-term ambitious research goals as well as intermediate milestones, prioritizing research that can be applied to Meta's product development. Additionally, you will mentor other team members and play a significant role in fostering healthy cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, collaborate, and execute on research that advances large language model research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A PhD in AI, computer science, or related technical fields.
  • Experience holding an industry, faculty, or government researcher position.
  • Publications in machine learning.
  • Experience writing software and executing complex experiments involving large AI models and datasets.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Direct experience in generative AI and LLM research.
  • 2+ years of work experience in a university, industry, or government lab, focusing on AI research.
  • First author publications experience at peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, and ACL).
  • Experience developing and debugging in Python.
