About the position

Meta is seeking a Research Scientist to join our Llama Large Language Model (LLM) Research team. This position is focused on Vision Large Language Models (VLLMs) and requires recognized experts in the field. The ideal candidate will have experience in areas such as vision encoders, data filtering and curation for both pre and post-training, reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF), responsible AI practices, and model controllability. The successful candidate will be passionate about producing and applying new scientific advancements to help develop and responsibly release vision large language models. In this role, you will lead, collaborate, and execute research that advances the state of the art in multimodal reasoning and generation. You will work towards long-term ambitious research goals while identifying intermediate milestones to track progress. Your contributions will include designing experimental details, writing reusable code, running evaluations, and organizing results. You will work closely with a large team and contribute to publications and open-sourcing efforts, while also mentoring other team members and fostering healthy cross-functional collaboration. A key aspect of your work will be prioritizing research that can be applied to Meta's product development, ensuring that your findings have a direct impact on the company's offerings.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • PhD in the field of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in AI.
  • Experience holding an industry, faculty, or government researcher position.
  • Publications in areas of machine learning, computer vision, NLP, or audio.
  • Experience writing software and executing complex experiments involving large AI models and datasets.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Direct experience in generative AI and LLM research.
  • First author publications experience at peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, and ACL).
  • Fluent in Python and PyTorch.
