About the position

KBR is seeking a Junior Technician to support our Space Suit Assembly, Integration, & Testing Team within KBR's Science and Space division. This role is crucial in ensuring the functionality and safety of space suits and related hardware. The AI&T Junior Technician will be responsible for the testing and maintenance of hardware, including space suits, EVA tools, crew aids, and ancillary equipment. The technician will engage in various tasks such as repair and maintenance, cleaning, inspection, and performance testing of these components. The role requires adherence to documented procedures and work authorizing documents, ensuring that all tasks are performed safely and effectively. The technician will also assist engineering teams in activities such as fit checks for suited subjects, manned test support, and classroom training events. Daily responsibilities include interfacing with customers, other technicians, engineers, and logistics personnel to ensure smooth operations. The technician will be expected to maintain a high level of communication, both verbally and in writing, with various stakeholders to report on progress and issues encountered during tasks. In addition to technical skills, the role demands a commitment to quality and safety standards, as well as the ability to work in a high-performing team environment. The technician will be required to operate a motor vehicle for the delivery of hardware to various events, emphasizing the need for a valid driver's license and a safe driving record. This position is integral to the success of the Space Suit program and contributes to KBR's mission of improving the world responsibly and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance, assembly, testing, repair, and processing of hardware to support various events and deliverables.
  • Incorporates engineering changes and performs functional performance testing of space suit components or related hardware.
  • Provides assistance to engineering in the location and diagnosis of anomalies and recommends corrective action.
  • Reads engineering drawings/schematics, equipment specifications, and test procedures.
  • Completes specified training online and in the classroom to maintain certifications.
  • Updates various job-related databases daily.
  • Operates a motor vehicle for delivery of hardware to various events.
  • Communicates daily with other technicians, leads, engineers, managers, and customers.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED plus applicable years directly related Technical Degree or Military Technical School.
  • Prior work as a mechanical technician plus applicable years of directly related work experience in a manufacturing and/or testing environment.
  • Ability to pass Clean Room and Controlled Work Area Training.
  • Excellent mechanical skills and ability to read, comprehend, and execute detailed technical processing procedures.
  • Ability to use and apply basic hand and power tools along with measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Capable of working in a high-performing team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Valid Texas driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • Experience with space suit hardware processing, testing, and maintenance.
  • Experience with EVA tool hardware processing, testing, and maintenance.
  • Experience with precision cleaning of fabricated parts and assemblies.
