About the position

The Adaptive Behavior Aide position is designed to support the special education teacher in addressing the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a middle school setting. This role emphasizes integrity, effective communication, and a commitment to continuous improvement in the educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teacher in preparation of instructional materials and classroom displays
  • Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom
  • Assist teacher in preparing/maintaining records/reports required by Federal, State or local laws/regulations
  • Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting or positioning
  • Assist students with physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene
  • Assist teacher in intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed
  • Assist teacher in working with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills
  • Assist in supervision of students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom
  • Inform teacher of special needs or problems of individual students
  • Participate in staff development and faculty meetings as assigned
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 48 hours of college coursework from an accredited college or university
  • Pass Spring Independent School District's NCLB test in the areas of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics

Nice-to-haves

  • One+ years experience working with children with disabilities
  • Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
