About the position
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the special education teacher in providing for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a special education setting. The role involves helping implement classroom programs, which include self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs. The individual will provide supervision and support for students who have serious emotional and behavioral problems or cognitive impairments. This position operates under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.
Responsibilities
- Assist the special education teacher in meeting the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities.
- Help implement classroom programs including self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs.
- Provide supervision and support for students with serious emotional and behavioral problems or cognitive impairments.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate or willingness to obtain certificate
- SAMA certification (or ability to obtain after hire)
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment
Nice-to-haves
- One year experience working with children preferred
