About the position

The AIML - ML Researcher, Safety & Red Teaming role at Apple focuses on developing responsible machine learning technologies and ensuring the safety of generative AI applications. The position involves leading research efforts that intersect machine learning and human-computer interaction, with a strong emphasis on fairness and responsibility in AI deployment. The researcher will collaborate with various teams to create innovative solutions that enhance user experiences while adhering to Apple's privacy and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Define and deliver responsible machine learning technologies.
• Research and advance red teaming methods for generative AI models.
• Research and develop mitigations and safeguards for safe deployment of LLMs in Apple products.
• Develop methods and frameworks to evaluate Apple products.
• Advocate for scientific and engineering excellence in AI-powered platforms and features.
• Collaborate with software engineers, machine learning engineers, and researchers on diverse problems.
• Work closely with product and partner teams to drive requirement definition and technical quality.

Requirements

• Strong research or product deployment record in responsible AI with publications in top ML and HCI venues.
• Strong research fundamentals in machine learning principles and development methodologies around LLMs and foundation models.
• Deep experience in human-centered research and understanding of design fundamentals in Human-Centered AI and Responsible AI.
• Ability to work with highly-sensitive content, including exposure to offensive and controversial material.

Nice-to-haves

• BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related fields.
• Strong organizational and operational skills working with large, multi-functional, and diverse teams.
