About the position

The Principal User Researcher will play a crucial role in the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) User Research team at Apple, focusing on enhancing user experiences across software, devices, and services. This position involves conducting human-centered research to inform product development, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and mentoring other researchers. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in user research and a passion for understanding user needs and behaviors.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with engineers, PMs, designers, and data scientists to align on research goals and develop study designs.
  • Conduct in-person and remote user studies on various Apple products and features.
  • Extract insights about usability, user experience, and user sentiment from qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Recommend product or feature improvements based on research findings to various stakeholders including engineering, design, and executives.
  • Evolve research planning, processes, and tools to enhance data collection and communication.
  • Mentor other researchers to support the goals of the research organization.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in behavioral/social sciences, such as psychology, neuroscience, human-computer interaction, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in human-centered research for software and/or hardware products.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and conducting user studies using qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Proficient in analyzing large amounts of qualitative and quantitative data and creating visualizations to communicate insights.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ph.D. in behavioral/social sciences or related field.
  • Proficient in data analysis and visualization software or programming languages (e.g., Matlab, JMP, SPSS, Python, R, Tableau).
  • Prior research experience with virtual assistants, speech recognition, or artificial intelligence.
  • Experience working in user research labs with specialized tools.
