About the position

The Senior Data Scientist position within the AIML Data organization at Apple is a pivotal role focused on driving product impact through measurement and evaluation. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about utilizing data to enhance user experiences for products and services that are utilized by hundreds of millions of people globally. The AIML Data organization aims to leverage data as the voice of the customer, and the Search Analytics team plays a crucial role in informing product evolution through comprehensive measurement, evaluation, and analysis of user experiences. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Search engineering teams to enhance search quality and guide feature development using data insights. Your work will directly contribute to delivering exceptional search experiences across various Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, HomePod, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV, in multiple languages. You will be responsible for researching and developing evaluation methods that improve the quality of Siri's user-facing products, ensuring that the methodologies you create are effectively translated into technologies utilized by Siri engineering teams. The position requires a strong analytical mindset, as you will be working with large and complex data sets to solve challenging, non-routine analysis problems. You will conduct thorough analyses that encompass data gathering, requirements specification, processing, and ongoing work, culminating in insightful presentations. Additionally, you will build and prototype analysis pipelines iteratively to provide scalable insights, while developing a comprehensive understanding of Siri Search data structures and metrics, advocating for necessary changes to support product development. Your passion for building outstanding products and your ability to communicate complex technical topics to diverse audiences will be essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Research and develop evaluation methods to improve the quality of Siri's user-facing products.
  • Collaborate with evaluation/experimentation engineering teams to translate methodological developments into technologies used by Siri engineering.
  • Work with large, complex data sets to solve difficult, non-routine analysis problems using advanced analytical methods.
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses including data gathering, requirements specification, processing, and ongoing work, culminating in presentations.
  • Build and prototype analysis pipelines iteratively to provide insights at scale.
  • Develop a comprehensive knowledge of Siri Search data structures and metrics, advocating for changes where needed for product development.
  • Partner closely with Siri search engineering teams on core machine learning algorithms and systems.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in data science, machine learning, and analytics, including statistical data analysis and A/B testing.
  • Experience in crafting, conducting, analyzing, and interpreting experiments and investigations.
  • Ability to articulate and translate business questions into statistical techniques to derive answers from available data.
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex technical topics to various stakeholders.
  • Strong programming skills, including data-querying skills (SQL and/or Spark) and experience with a scripting language (e.g., Python, R, or Scala).
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
