About the position

The AIML Data organization at Apple is dedicated to enhancing products by leveraging data to reflect the voice of our customers. The Search Analytics team plays a crucial role in this mission by focusing on the measurement, evaluation, and analysis of user experiences to inform product evolution. As a member of this team, you will collaborate with Search engineering teams to enhance search quality and guide feature development through data-driven insights, ultimately delivering exceptional search experiences across various Apple devices including iPhone, iPad, HomePod, Mac, Watch, and tv, in multiple languages. In this role, you will be responsible for researching and developing evaluation methods aimed at improving the quality of Apple’s user-facing products, such as Siri and Search. You will work closely with evaluation and experimentation engineering teams to translate your methodological developments into practical technologies that product engineering teams will utilize daily. Your work will involve handling large and complex data sets, solving challenging and non-routine analysis problems, and applying advanced analytical methods as necessary. You will conduct comprehensive analyses that encompass data collection, quality control, requirements specification, processing, and presentation of findings. Additionally, you will build and prototype analysis pipelines iteratively to provide scalable insights and develop a thorough understanding of product data structures and metrics, advocating for necessary changes to support product development. Close collaboration with product engineering teams on core machine learning algorithms and user experience evaluations will be essential. This position requires a passion for building outstanding products and involves a diverse range of skills and innovative approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Research and develop evaluation methods to improve the quality of Apple user-facing products, such as Siri and Search.
  • Collaborate with evaluation/experimentation engineering teams to translate methodological developments into technologies for product engineering.
  • Work with large, complex data sets and solve difficult, non-routine analysis problems using advanced analytical methods.
  • Conduct analysis that includes data collection, quality control, requirements specification, processing, and presentations.
  • Build and prototype analysis pipelines iteratively to provide insights at scale.
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of product data structures and metrics, advocating for changes where needed for product development.
  • Partner closely with product engineering teams on core machine learning algorithms and user experience evaluations.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in data science, machine learning, and analytics, including statistical data analysis, A/B testing, and prompt engineering.
  • Experience crafting, conducting, analyzing, and interpreting experiments and investigations.
  • Ability to articulate and translate business questions into statistical techniques to derive answers from available data.
  • Capable of driving projects of varying sizes and scopes, knowing when to dive deep into details.
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex technical topics to diverse audiences including data scientists, engineers, and business partners.
  • Strong programming skills, including data-querying skills (SQL and/or Spark) and experience with a scripting language for data processing (e.g., Python, R, or Scala).
  • 5 years of relevant work experience.
