About the position

The Senior Machine Learning Engineer will lead the development and architecture of a trustworthy anomaly detection system for Siri, aimed at improving performance and user experience. This role involves creating a technical vision for the platform, understanding user requirements, and applying rigorous statistical methodologies to automate the detection of performance regressions. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions that enhance Siri's functionality across various Apple platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and architecture of an anomaly detection platform for Siri.
  • Define, develop, and deliver key features for high-quality alerting to troubleshoot regressions.
  • Communicate technical vision and progress to leadership and engineering teams.
  • Gather feature requirements and define technical roadmaps for the Tools team.
  • Onboard and mentor team members, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Drive impact incrementally in a rapidly changing environment with ambiguous requirements.
  • Innovate and share knowledge with others to improve systems.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Applied Statistics, Machine Learning, Time Series Analysis, or related field.
  • Master's degree with at least 6 years of industry experience in statistical machine learning, or PhD with at least 3 years of industry experience.
  • 3 years of experience building systems based on rigorous statistical or ML methodology, particularly in anomaly detection using time series analysis.
  • 3 years of coding experience in Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Proven record of being customer and impact-focused, with the ability to set technical vision for long-term projects.
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts and empower others.
  • Innovative problem-solving ability with excellent analytical skills and critical thinking.
  • Leadership experience as a technical lead for complex development projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience building and owning anomaly detection frameworks for business metrics.
  • Proven record of delivering analytics tools end to end, from requirements gathering to scalable tool development.
  • Experience in improving system performance and troubleshooting performance bottlenecks.
