About the position

The Air Compliance Inspector position at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency involves conducting inspections of air pollutant emission facilities, responding to complaints, and enforcing compliance with state and federal air quality regulations. The role requires analyzing compliance data, conducting investigations, and providing support for compliance and enforcement activities related to air quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct permitted air pollutant emission facility inspections.
  • Respond to complaints regarding air quality violations.
  • Analyze compliance data to determine adherence to regulations.
  • Conduct follow-up enforcement actions when violations are identified.
  • Investigate and evaluate source air quality compliance and emissions rates.
  • Apply knowledge of state and federal air quality rules and policies.
  • Lead and support compliance and enforcement activities.

Requirements

  • Two years of environmental protection experience or a Bachelor's degree in environmental protection or related science field for Environmental Specialist 1.
  • Three years of environmental protection experience or a Bachelor's degree in environmental protection or related science field and one year of professional experience for Environmental Specialist 2.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Understanding of the environmental regulatory process and relevant rules.
  • Basic computer skills with proficiency in Word and exposure to Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good communication and human relations skills.
  • Valid Class D Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in performing compliance inspections and elevated enforcement actions.
  • Knowledge of the state and federal environmental regulatory framework and the Clean Air Act.
  • Ability to understand complex industry processes and regulations.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders in business, government, and environmental groups.
  • Ability to effectively represent the MPCA on social, economic, and environmental issues.
