About the position

The Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic serves in the Maintenance and Operation section within the Facility Management Services at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center. This role involves performing maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on HVAC/R equipment to ensure optimal functioning in support of the facility's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in an independent manner under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Maintain, store, and safeguard tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Exhibit knowledge of a wide range of HVAC equipment including pumps, compressors, air handling units, building control systems, and chillers.
  • Repair, install, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance on vital hospital HVAC/R equipment.
  • Repair/replace electric motors and balance heating/cooling systems.
  • Inspect, adjust, clean, and modify HVAC/R systems.
  • Use measuring devices, tapes, voltmeters, calipers, etc. in repair and diagnosis of assigned equipment.
  • Interpret readings from analog/digital gauges and meters for diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of assigned equipment and systems.
  • Apply information in maintenance and repair manuals in the repair and upkeep of assigned equipment.
  • Consider special properties, treatment needed, and other factors when selecting materials and parts.
  • Exhibit knowledge of EPA rules and regulations governing refrigerants and their use, recycle, and disposal.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be able to perform the duties of this position as demonstrated by training or experience.
  • Must hold a Universal Certification for refrigerants.
