About the position

The primary purpose of the Air Operations Specialist position is to manage and operate the local Flight Services Office, known as MacDill One-stop, for the 6th Air Refueling Wing and 927th Air Refueling Wing aircrew members. This role is critical in supporting MacDill flight operations, ensuring that pilots receive a comprehensive range of services pertinent to pre-flight planning. The incumbent will also serve as the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) for the 6th Operations Group's Squadron Operations Support Center, which involves overseeing contract compliance and performance related to operational support services. In this position, the specialist will be responsible for the effective operation of flight-data information systems during their shift. This includes recognizing, diagnosing, and addressing common hardware and software issues that may arise. The role also encompasses supervisory personnel management responsibilities, ensuring that the team operates efficiently and effectively. The Air Operations Specialist must maintain a high level of knowledge regarding fleet operations, mission planning, and the regulatory environment governing air traffic and flight operations. The position is classified as Mission Essential (ME) and performs a Mission Critical Function (MCF), which means it must continue to operate without interruption during emergencies and through the full resumption of all functions. The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance and is required to handle sensitive and classified information in accordance with established regulations. This role is vital to the operational readiness of the aircrew and the overall mission of the 6th and 927th Air Refueling Wings.

Responsibilities

  • Furnishes pilots with a full range of services pertinent to pre-flight planning.
  • Serves as COR for the 6th Operations Group's Squadron Operations Support Contract.
  • Performs supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
  • Responsible for the effective operation of flight-data information systems during the shift of duty.
  • Recognizes, diagnoses, and acts on commonly occurring hardware/software problems.
  • Performs Equipment Manager and administrative functions.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Males must be registered for Selective Service
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance
  • Experience in maintaining, retailing, purchasing, or procurement of transportation equipment or services
  • Knowledge of fleet operations and applicable regulations governing transportation vehicles
  • Familiarity with DoD, USAF, FAA, and ICAO mission planning and pre-flight requirements
  • Knowledge of air traffic system laws, rules, regulations, and procedures
  • Skill in the use of flight planning equipment for transmitting flight plans and messages
  • Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations to meet program requirements.
