About the position

The Air Permit Review Environmental Manager is responsible for overseeing the review and approval of air permit applications, ensuring compliance with state and federal air pollution laws. This role involves drafting permit conditions, conducting inspections, providing technical guidance, and managing projects related to environmental compliance. The position plays a crucial role in protecting human health and the environment while supporting the operations of various industries in Indiana.

Responsibilities

  • Review applications for air permit approvals including MSOP, FESOP, and Part 70 permits.
  • Draft permit approvals and conditions that ensure compliance with air pollution laws.
  • Research state and federal guidance related to permitting and air pollution regulations.
  • Serve as an environmental expert providing guidance to regulated communities and government officials.
  • Perform project management duties to ensure effective management of program area needs.
  • Conduct surveys, inspections, and investigations of facilities and sites.
  • Provide technical and regulatory guidance to the regulated community.
  • Use compliance and enforcement tools to ensure timely compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Assist with the preparation of sampling and analysis work plans.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding permits and program-related inquiries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Public Health, or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience in an environmental or environmental public health field.
  • Broad knowledge of environmental protection principles and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of chemistry, biology, hydrology, and environmental sciences.
  • Ability to conduct surveys, inspections, and investigations of facilities and sites.
  • Excellent research and writing skills for preparing reports.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with parties of diverse environmental expertise.
  • Ability to interpret and apply legal terminology and practices.
