About the position

The position involves performing a variety of duties related to the development and implementation of air quality planning efforts, both short and long-range. This includes working on regulations, designations, and special projects in municipal air quality planning. The individual will serve as the primary technical writer for plans, regulations, and reports, and will be responsible for developing and refining strategies to achieve environmental health standards. Additional responsibilities include conducting necessary research, coordinating internal committees, conducting outreach, overseeing the promulgation of rules, and providing technical assistance related to air quality planning. The role supports the Control Strategies Section of the Air Quality Program and the Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Air Quality Control Board (AQCB).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement short and long-range air quality planning efforts.
  • Serve as primary technical writer of plans, regulations, and reports.
  • Develop and refine strategies for achieving environmental health standards.
  • Conduct research as needed.
  • Coordinate internal committees.
  • Conduct outreach and oversee all phases of promulgation of rules.
  • Support the Control Strategies Section of the Air Quality Program.
  • Provide technical assistance relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in natural or environmental science, public health administration, planning, or law.
  • Five years of experience in environmental science, public health administration, planning, law, environmental legislation, environmental policy development, or air quality program administration.
  • Two years of supervisory experience.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
