About the position

The Aircraft Engine Mechanic position at the Department of the Air Force involves troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, and making final adjustments to various models of malfunctioning aircraft engines. The role is critical for ensuring the operational readiness of aircraft by performing maintenance tasks in test cells or directly on the aircraft.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning conventional and modified aircraft engines on the flight line, in test cells, or maintenance shops.
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble aircraft engines, their assemblies, and components.
  • Utilize a variety of hand and power tools while adhering to safety practices and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Knowledge of installation, operation, and repair of various aircraft engines and accessory systems.
  • Skill in using diagnostic and electronic equipment, automated test equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical orders, manufacturers' manuals, and complex schematics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot engine malfunctions and make tentative diagnoses.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with digital diagnostic equipment and engine analysis software.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and practices in aircraft maintenance.
