About the position

The Aircraft Ordnance Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing aircraft armament systems, as well as loading and fusing ammunition for Marine Corps/Navy aircraft. This role requires a combination of technical skills and safety precautions to ensure the operational readiness of aircraft ordnance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Performs scheduled/unscheduled maintenance on ordnance and related equipment.
  • Maintains and repairs aircraft armament weapons systems and fire warning/extinguishing systems.
  • Operates and performs maintenance on armament weapons support equipment.
  • Loads and unloads airborne weapons and conducts functional testing of aircraft weapons systems.
  • Removes, maintains, services, installs, and loads aircraft guns.
  • Arms and de-arms aircraft as required.
  • Conducts functional tests of racks, launchers, and electrical components of aircraft armament systems.
  • Configures aircraft for carriage of aviation ammunition by installing or removing necessary equipment.
  • Identifies munitions by type and explosive hazard, and follows emergency response procedures.
  • Conducts ammunition inventories and maintains stock records.
  • Complies with applicable aircraft maintenance instructions and technical publications.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of specialized courses in aircraft structural repair is required.
  • Four years of recent experience in the type of aircraft being serviced.
  • Must meet the criteria to be qualified and certified as per OPNAVINST 8023.
  • Ability to see imperfections and read micrometer readings.
  • Ability to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Ability to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
  • May be required to operate power vehicles and machinery.
  • Must obtain appropriate support equipment and/or material handling licensing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any required certification or clearance.
  • Must meet medical requirements for Explosive handlers and Explosive vehicle Operators.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience on Naval/Marine Corp Aircraft.
  • Completed CNATT AO (A)(C) Course.
  • Ability to work in various operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Experience working in an aircraft maintenance hangar.
