About the position

This is an AIR NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION with the 148th Fighter Wing, Aircraft Maintenance Squadron located in Duluth, MN. The position is for an Aircraft Mechanic (WG-8852-12) responsible for directing, monitoring, or performing overall maintenance, servicing, inspections, and documentation for one or more aircraft. The work is performed under complex conditions, including all weather and night operations. The selected individual will coordinate and oversee the work of subordinate aircraft mechanics and other trades working on the assigned aircraft. The position requires compliance with safety, fire, security, environmental, and housekeeping regulations, ensuring that materials and equipment are properly protected and maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Directs, monitors, or performs overall maintenance, servicing, inspections, and documentation for one or more aircraft.
  • Coordinates and oversees the work of subordinate aircraft mechanics and journey-level workers in other trades.
  • Reviews, trains, and prepares to perform battle damage assessment/repair.
  • Ensures aircraft documentation and Maintenance Information Systems (MIS) accurately reflect the airworthiness of the aircraft.
  • Provides technical guidance and assistance to flight crews regarding observed discrepancies and system malfunctions.
  • Performs in-process and final inspection of aircraft and components undergoing repair, overhaul, and/or modification.
  • Plans, develops, and conducts training for a multi-faceted workforce.
  • Conducts and certifies Cross Utilization Training (CUT) of non WG-88XX series Aircraft Mechanics.

Requirements

  • Must be a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard.
  • Must wear the military uniform.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Normal color vision as defined in AFI 48-123.
  • Must complete a probationary period if required.
  • Must have experience or training in aircraft maintenance.
  • Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics.
  • Experience in instructing lower graded mechanics.
  • Experience performing duties as a dedicated crew chief.
