About the position

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Senior Aircraft Modification Systems Engineer to join our small but highly empowered team at our northern Virginia location. This position is critical as it focuses on the modification of existing aircraft with advanced sensors and communication equipment, ensuring that our national defense and security programs are supported effectively. As a Senior Engineer, you will be directly responsible for the success of various projects, emphasizing the integration of aircraft survivability equipment and ensuring compliance with airworthiness criteria. Your role will involve not only technical engineering tasks but also collaboration with various stakeholders, including aircraft and equipment suppliers, to ensure that all modifications meet stringent safety and operational standards. In this position, you will be expected to conduct flight tests of both modified and unmodified aircraft to evaluate their airworthiness. You will leverage your extensive experience in aircraft modification and systems engineering to provide insights and solutions that enhance the performance and safety of our aircraft. The role requires a deep understanding of CONUS-based test ranges and the ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly and effectively, both in written and oral formats. You will also be responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating strong analytical skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Responsibilities

  • Focus on projects emphasizing integration of sensors, communication equipment, and aircraft survivability equipment.
  • Understand airworthiness criteria and ensure compliance during modifications.
  • Conduct flight tests of aircraft and modified aircraft to evaluate airworthiness.
  • Utilize knowledge of CONUS-based test ranges for effective project execution.
  • Communicate complex technical issues clearly and effectively in written and oral formats.
  • Collaborate with aircraft/equipment suppliers and work well with coworkers and teammates.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating strong analytical skills.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in aircraft modification, systems engineering approaches, and program management.
  • Demonstrated skill in flight test, aircraft modification, systems engineering, stores separation analysis, or unmanned aircraft.
  • Knowledge of airworthiness criteria and FAA airworthiness standards technology.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Outstanding communication skills for complex technical issues and comprehensive documentation.
  • Good analytical skills to manage multiple projects effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Specific experience with modification of manned or unmanned aircraft.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, including Project.
  • Experience staffing decision packages in a headquarters environment.
  • Experience with the Intelligence Community, including acquisition and engineering projects.
