About the position

The CBP Aircraft Quality Control Inspector is responsible for ensuring that assigned aircraft are maintained according to the required specifications of FAA and DOD regulations, OEM instructions, and CBP directives. This role involves inspecting maintenance work, providing technical guidance, and ensuring airworthiness before operation.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect the work of Aircraft Mechanics performing maintenance repairs and modifications on aircraft structures, engines, electrical systems, and avionics.
  • Apply technical knowledge to determine proper equipment installation and operation.
  • Assist the maintenance department in solving complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints and manufacturers' manuals.
  • Make entries in aircraft logs and records, providing guidance to lower-level technicians during maintenance efforts.
  • Perform receiving, in-process, final quality, flight safety inspections, and functional operational tests during maintenance and repair of military tactical aircraft systems.
  • Approve or reject work accomplished by field team members to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Review and approve locally developed procedures for complex repair situations.
  • Analyze defects and interpret quality control rejection and failure trends.
  • Monitor safety, training, and certification requirements.
  • Conduct daily work site Safety Inspections and Foreign Object Damage Inspections using checklists.
  • Monitor tool control programs and maintain records for calibration of measuring and test equipment.
  • Maintain Quality, Safety, Training, and Certification Records.
  • Coordinate with the Customer Quality Assurance Representative on quality matters and final acceptance inspections.
  • Inspect forms and records related to aircraft maintenance.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures, quality plans, and safety plans.
  • Assist maintenance in briefing and debriefing functional check flights.
  • Document maintenance as per Quality Assurance and regulatory requirements.
  • Comply with work order timekeeping system procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and utilize a clean-as-you-go process during maintenance duties.
  • Perform weekly Foreign Object Damage walk-downs.
  • Report missing, lost, found, or unattended tools to the supervisor.
  • Inventory and inspect tools regularly and report the need for replacements.
  • Handle hazardous materials according to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Report accidents, injuries, safety violations, and unsafe practices to the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least five (5) years' experience as an aircraft and power plant mechanic.
  • Valid Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) License required.
  • Valid FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) required.
  • Ability to obtain a government flight line driver's license.
  • Possess a valid United States driver's license.
  • Experience providing technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers.
  • Excellent organizational skills to prioritize workload and meet aircraft delivery schedules.
  • Ability to read and interpret data in English.
