About the position

ACET has openings for an Aircraft Sheetmetal/Structural Technician III in our Camp Pendleton, CA location. This position is for an Aircraft Mechanical and Structural Technician III, typically working at an advanced or senior sheet metal and mechanical technician level. The technician will be responsible for documenting removed components, including part and serial numbers in logbooks, and will need to read technical data, engineering drawings, and blueprints. The role involves witnessing and documenting torque data, as well as performing larger scale modifications on the aircraft. This includes cutting or modifying existing structures, installing antennas, locating structural webs and stringers, and cutting large holes in aircraft skins and frames. The technician will work directly with engineering teams on prototypes, validations, and verification installs, as well as with squadron maintenance control and government field support teams (FST). In addition to these responsibilities, the technician will guide Level II technicians on aircraft open up/close ups, which may involve the removal of cabin soundproofing, floorboards, air ducts, flight control rods, hydraulics, and fuel systems when required. Typical tools used in this role include drills, grinders, micrometers, calipers, sheet metal breaks and shears, hole saws, and dial indicators, with the technician acting as quality control oversight throughout the process.

Responsibilities

  • Document removed components part and serial numbers in logbooks.

  • Witness and document torque data.
  • Perform larger scale modifications on the aircraft, including cutting or modifying existing structures.
  • Install antennas and locate structural webs and stringers.
  • Cut large holes in aircraft skins and frames.
  • Work directly with engineering teams on prototypes, validations, and verification installs.
  • Guide Level II technicians on aircraft open up/close ups.

  • Act as quality control oversight.

Requirements

  • Minimum of eight (8) years' structural experience on H-1 aircraft or similar rotary wing aircraft.
  • DEPOT level structural aircraft maintenance functions experience.
  • Skilled/qualified in Naval Aircraft Maintenance or equivalent skill designation from other services.
  • Ability to utilize blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and manufacturers' drawings in performance of assigned duties.
  • Demonstrate advanced DEPOT Level sheet metal functions including drilling, close tolerance hole reaming, riveting, and installing fasteners.
  • Ability to read, write, interpret, and comply with aircraft maintenance procedures and manuals.
  • Perform troubleshooting, repair, modifications, corrosion control, and preservation of aircraft and systems.
  • Demonstrate operational knowledge of aircraft, systems, and component parts.
  • Ability to detect, prevent, and treat corrosion.
  • Knowledge of proper use of hand tools in aircraft maintenance.
  • Complete maintenance documentation accurately as required by job assignment.
  • Provide own basic hand tools.
  • Obtain and maintain Industrial Secret clearance and Common Access Card (CAC).
