The Airport Communications Operator position is a critical role within the Operations Division of the City of Houston's Airport Communications Center (ACC). This position is responsible for operating communications equipment to receive and process both emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance at the airport. The operator will monitor and respond to alarm systems, aircraft emergency alerts, and incidents occurring within the airport terminal and on the roadways. The role requires a high level of coordination and communication with various stakeholders, including the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Houston Fire Department (HFD), and Houston Police Department (HPD), to ensure the safety and security of all airport operations. In this role, the operator will manage the airport telephone exchange system, which includes the public address system and TDDs. They will provide routine information to customers regarding airline arrivals and departures, traffic conditions, parking information, and service complaints. The operator will maintain a daily log of calls and direct public inquiries to the appropriate parties, ensuring that all communications are handled efficiently and effectively. Additionally, the operator will broadcast critical information regarding aircraft emergencies and hazardous conditions as outlined in the Airport Emergency Procedures Manual. The position also involves entering and updating domestic and international airline schedules into the information display system, monitoring access control systems to prevent unauthorized access to secure areas, and notifying authorities of civil defense alerts. The operator will relay information regarding maintenance issues and updates to the maintenance tracking system. This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, often dealing with emergencies and high-stress situations, while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
