About the position

The position involves performing complex functions and services at Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport, ensuring compliance with Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 139 and related advisory circulars. The role focuses on airport safety, security, obstructions, maintenance, and inspection on the airfield, as well as monitoring landside operations for safety concerns. The individual will conduct daily airfield self-inspections, including perimeter fencing checks for security violations and wildlife hazards, and will perform public safety inspections associated with the terminal building and landside operations. Additionally, the position requires ensuring that all tenants and Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) personnel adhere to the Motor Vehicle Operator rules and regulations established by FAR Part 139. The individual will provide training for Movement and Non-movement Area vehicle operators and construction contractors, assist in coordinating construction activities on the airfield, and issue Notices to Airmen (NOTAM) and field condition reports for any discrepancies. The role also involves creating work orders for airfield discrepancies and performing follow-up inspections to ensure compliance with FAA Advisory Circulars. The successful candidate will document and record all airfield-related incidents and accidents for FAA review, resolve wildlife issues, enforce operational characteristics and critical areas of Navigational Aids, and operate specialized equipment. The position requires providing professional customer service, acting as a liaison between RIAC and airport tenants, and assisting pilots with advisories during non-towered operations. The individual will also monitor airfield construction safety concerns and may be required to work under stress, particularly during snow removal operations or severe weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily airfield self-inspections in accordance with FAR Part 139.
  • Inspect airfield perimeter fencing for security violations and wildlife hazards.
  • Conduct public safety inspections associated with the terminal building and landside operations.
  • Ensure compliance with Motor Vehicle Operator rules and regulations established by FAR Part 139.
  • Provide airfield awareness training for vehicle operators and construction contractors.
  • Assist in coordinating construction activity on the airfield.

  • Input information relating to daily airport operations into databases and reports.
  • Provide professional customer service and serve as a liaison between RIAC and airport tenants.
  • Assist with aircraft marshalling and provide follow-me services.
  • Enforce airport vehicle operator policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • 2 year college degree and/or 3 years airside aviation experience.
  • Basic understanding of the National Airspace System.
  • Valid state motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Ability to meet FAA and RIAC security background checks.
  • Strong oral, written, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to recognize, prioritize, and react to simultaneous situations.
  • Knowledge of FAR Part 77 Obstructions to Navigable Airspace.
  • Ability to read and understand meteorological terminology.
