About the position

The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority is seeking full-time Airport Police Officers to maintain order and enforce laws at Syracuse Hancock International Airport. The role involves community policing, routine patrol duties, and responding to emergencies, all under the supervision of the Airport Police Captain. Candidates must be community-service oriented and able to work various shifts, including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Enforce federal and state laws and local ordinances at the airport.
• Conduct community policing and routine patrol duties.
• Respond to aircraft emergency situations.
• Direct traffic in congested and emergency areas.
• Issue traffic citations or warnings.
• Perform investigatory work and preserve evidence.
• Check doors and windows of unoccupied properties.
• Investigate suspicious activities and make arrests.
• Maintain order in crowds at airport gatherings.
• Answer questions and direct the traveling public.
• Utilize radio technology for communication with airport personnel and law enforcement agencies.
• Make daily reports of activities.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid New York State Basic Police Officer Certificate (BPOC) or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
• 3 years of work experience as a police officer or peace officer.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Citizenship in the United States at the time of appointment.
• Valid New York State driver's license at the time of appointment.
• Ability to meet physical and medical conditions as per Municipal Police Training Council standards.

Nice-to-haves
