About the position

The Airport Police Officer position with the City of San Antonio is a full-time role responsible for providing police protection and security at the San Antonio International Airport. This includes the terminals, Air Operations Area, and the entire airport complex. Officers are tasked with enforcing all applicable laws and ordinances to ensure the safety and security of the general public, airport staff, and passengers. The working conditions for this role involve both indoor and outdoor environments, with occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions, hostile individuals, and emergency situations. The position does not involve supervisory responsibilities. Officers will be required to provide law enforcement support to airlines, vendors, tenants, passengers, and TSA operations. Key duties include controlling and directing traffic, issuing city ordinance violations, and initiating arrests when necessary. Officers will respond to emergency situations, investigate incidents such as traffic accidents and alarms, and prepare detailed reports on various occurrences. The role requires physical activity, including standing, walking, twisting, kneeling, and potentially running, as well as the handling of firearms and modern police equipment in emergency scenarios. Candidates must successfully complete the San Antonio Airport Police Academy, which operates Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Upon successful completion of the academy, officers will be assigned to shifts based on seniority. The position offers a $2,500 hiring incentive upon completion of the academy, reflecting the city's commitment to attracting qualified candidates for this critical role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide police protection and security for the general public at the airport.
  • Support law enforcement operations for airlines, vendors, tenants, passengers, and TSA.

  • Patrol the airport area and monitor activities, ensuring safety and compliance with laws.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency.
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
  • Current and unrestricted Texas Peace Officer's license or immediate licensability by TCOLE upon appointment.
  • Pass a TSA Security Threat Assessment clearance upon employment.
  • Maintain federally mandated security clearance required to work at an airport.
  • Pass a CJIS fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
