About the position

The Transportation Security Officer (TSO) position at Kansas City International Airport involves ensuring the safety of the traveling public by identifying dangerous objects and preventing them from being transported onto aircraft. This role requires excellent customer service and critical-thinking skills, as TSOs will interact with passengers and operate screening equipment in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Identify dangerous objects in property and/or on passengers.
• Prevent dangerous objects from being transported onto aircraft.
• Conduct passenger pat-downs and property searches.
• Lift and carry bags (up to 50 pounds), bins, and property.
• Interact continuously and effectively with the public by giving directions and responding to inquiries.
• Provide the highest levels of customer service and professionalism.
• Make effective decisions in both crisis and routine situations.
• Maintain focus and awareness within a stressful environment.
• Operate various screening equipment.

Requirements

• Must possess a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Excellent communication skills with proficiency in the English language.
• Ability to operate security equipment at screening checkpoints.
• Attention to detail and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to complete required classroom and on-the-job training and certification exams.
• Ability to work irregular hours and/or shifts including holidays and weekends.
• Ability to retain knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and follow verbal and written instructions.

Nice-to-haves

• 1 year of experience as a security guard (preferred).
• 1 year of experience in airport security (preferred).
• 1 year of experience as a TSO/TSA (preferred).
