About the position

Oshkosh AeroTech, a division of Oshkosh Corporation, is seeking a skilled Carpenter to join our team at the Ontario International Airport (ONT) in California. As a leading provider of aviation ground support products and airport services, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality solutions to commercial airlines, airports, air-freight carriers, and military customers. The Carpenter will play a crucial role in ensuring that our facilities and equipment are built and maintained to the highest standards, contributing to the safety and efficiency of airport operations. In this position, the Carpenter will be responsible for installing various structural components, including foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs, using a variety of materials such as wood, steel, metal, concrete, and plastics. The role requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to interpret blueprints and building plans to prepare project layouts and determine the necessary dimensions and materials. The Carpenter will also be tasked with erecting scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures at elevated heights, ensuring compliance with safety regulations throughout the process. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in carpentry, with at least four years of experience in commercial or residential settings. They should possess the ability to read and comprehend schematic diagrams and blueprints, as well as a solid understanding of job site safety protocols. The Carpenter will also be expected to communicate effectively with co-workers and follow instructions diligently, maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Responsibilities

  • Installs foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using materials such as wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composites.
  • Fits and installs window frames, doors, door frames, door hardware, interior and exterior trim using a carpenter's level, plumb bob, and laser levels.
  • Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground levels.
  • Studies specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.
  • Shapes or cuts materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
  • Follows established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean environment.
  • Builds or repairs cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, hand tools, or power tools.
  • Assembles and fastens materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Removes damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repairs or replaces them using hand tools.
  • Inspects ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures.
  • Moves necessary materials around the job site as assigned.
  • Cleans up worksite debris.

Requirements

  • High school diploma is an asset.
  • 4 years of experience in commercial or residential carpentry.
  • Ability to comprehend schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, building plans, and other specifications.
  • Strong working knowledge of job site safety as well as the ability to complete a company-specific safety orientation.
