About the position

The position serves as an Automated Technical Support Specialist (ATSS) within the Technical Support Operations Group, focusing on the operation of the National Airspace System (NAS). The role involves a variety of functions including integration, restoration, testing, and evaluation of advanced services and hardware/software systems. The ATSS applies comprehensive technical knowledge to ensure the integrity of systems and services, providing high-level technical support and resolving complex technical problems independently.

Responsibilities

• Perform integration, restoration, testing, and evaluation of new advanced services or service components.
• Provide technical support for analyzing, designing, developing, installing, repairing, and maintaining complex systems.
• Resolve unique technical problems without managerial intervention and suggest solutions.
• Plan, coordinate, and perform work independently, advising supervisors on critical issues only.
• Assist with repair and restoration of services or systems, ensuring minimal service interruptions.
• Evaluate diagnostic data from multiple systems to support network services and correct deficiencies.
• Collaborate with system users, planners, engineers, and contractors for system acceptance and problem resolution.
• Develop recommendations for enhancing system efficiency through technology modifications.
• Monitor project resources and identify requirements for staffing, funds, materials, and equipment.
• Provide training, mentoring, and guidance to FAA employees and contractors.

Requirements

• Specialized experience in telecommunications networks and systems, including knowledge of telephone and data cables, wiring, and digital communication circuits.
• Hands-on experience with telecommunications systems and peripheral equipment such as computer networks and data modems.
• Ability to assess technical requirements, specifications, and conduct site surveys.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills to oversee and coordinate telecommunications activities.
